United Nude flagship store in Amsterdam

United Nude will open a 350m2 flagshipstore in Amsterdam, on the Spuistraat. The brand is a collaboration between dutchmen Rem D. Koolhaas (nephew of the famous architect) en brit Galahad JD Clark (of the Desert Boots yes). Koolhaas designs shoes since 2002 when he studied architecture at Delft University. He designed the Möbius: a 2-dimensional object with only 1 side in 3-dimensional space ( I am lost now). This shoe is reincarnated every season in new colours & varieties. United Nude is now sold in over 30 countries worldwide.

In Amsterdam this weekend? Visit Jan's factory!

The world-renowned shoe designer Jan Jansen has built up an enormous oeuvre from the past 45 years, part of which can now be seen in Amsterdam. This pop-up exhibition, only there for 12 days ( until 27-9-09), giving an overview of his work, is complemented by the Jan Jansen Factory Store, an experimental shoe factory on location – and a first for Amsterdam! Note there will be Q&A sessions with Jan Jansen on Sunday 20 + 27 September (13:30-14:30). Go to Elle.nl, because although in dutch, the Designroute they have planned through town, is easy to find & will be a feast to walk! NB: The Factory Store is only open on the weekend.

Dutch design: Jan Jansen

Jan Jansen is, what I would call, the nestor of the dutch shoe-world. Jan opened his atelier in Amsterdam in 1963 and has created some of the most amazing shoes in his career. Take a look at his shoe-closet here. The shoes in his new winter 2009 collection are still wearable pieces of shoe-couture. For sale via Aad van den Berg, prices range from €170,- to €270,- in sizes 37 t/m 41.
